Florida Pro Musica – Palestrina and Victoria

November 13, 2010

November 21, 2010 – Palestrina & Victoria

Florida Pro Musica and Music Director Larry Kent open the 2010-2011 season with a concert of a cappella choral music featuring Palestrina‘s magnificent Missa Ave Regina Caelorum (Hail, Queen of Heaven). Widely considered the greatest Catholic composer of his time, possibly of all time, this beautiful Mass setting demonstrates Palestrina’s mastery of seamless counterpoint, soaring melody and breathtaking harmony, and provides a fitting centerpiece of this concert honoring Sacred Heart’s 150th Anniversary. Also on this concert are two of the most beloved sacred motets of the Renaissance, Victoria’s O magnum mysterium and Palestrina’s Sicut cervus, plus several 16th century madrigals and a refreshing group of songs in the Sacred Harp/Southern Harmony  tradition featuring the women of the Chorus.

The 60-minute concert is at 4:00 p.m., followed by a reception with the musicians. Tickets are $15 general admission, and may be purchased at the door or online at www.FloridaProMusica.com.
